Big Lou at Zoom Room

AAs you read this, I’ll be attending an Institute for Functional Medicine training event in Santa Monica, CA. This module is an introductory one that examines functional medicine from a case-study perspective. Case studies are the closest we can get to practical application without actually practicing.

But what is functional medicine? The institute explains it this way: “An epidemic of chronic disease—largely preventable and reversible—is compromising the health of populations around the world, increasing human suffering, death rates, and economic burdens. It’s time to meet this challenge head on. Because of its focus on acute care, the current medical model fails to confront both the causes of and solutions for the chronic disease epidemic. Functional medicine practitioners are replacing it with a model of comprehensive care and prevention that is systems-based, integrative, patient-centered, and more effective. “

Functional medicine practitioners can be medical doctors, naturopathic doctors, acupuncturists, chiropractors or other specialists. They work with chronic disease patients beyond the known risk factors to address the root causes of disease. They treat patients, not symptoms.

Change your focus, change your results.

As they say…time to my geek on. I can’t wait!

On Sunday, Big Louie goes for his agility training. He’s such an accomplished young man.

Hey! Dogs have to keep in shape too! (See right) as Big Lou takes one of his first agility training classes.
